A declaration of how we learn and live together
Manifesto
I felt a need to name a statement of values- what we stand for and how we move together. What I am creating here doesn’t fit neatly into any single definition. It carries the inspiration of Sudbury schools, the heart of holistic being, and the openness to keep growing as we grow. There isn’t one word that captures it, because it is alive.
This manifesto is the container I hold for our community. It is both a compass and a commitment- a reflection of the values that guide us and the soil from which our sanctuary will flourish.
We believe in freedom
We witness freedom as the spark that keeps learning alive. Each learner carries an inner flame, and we honor their natural right to follow curiosity without coercion.
We believe in community
We know community to be the richest curriculum. Life with others- through conversation, play, story, and presence, becomes our greatest teacher.
We believe in shared voice
We know the power of shared voice. Every voice matters, and decisions are shaped within community.
We believe in trust
We live by trust- knowing children and adults alike are innately good, capable, and always worthy of deep respect.
We believe in presence
We root ourselves in presence, where awareness, reflection, and conscious choice guide us more than schedules or systems.
We believe integrity
We honor integrity, knowing the stories, influence, and ambition are sacred powers meant to serve truth, growth, and collection well being.
We believe in whole humans
We nurture whole humans- mind, heart, body, and sprit, so that no part of us is left to starve alone.
We believe in freedom with responsibility
We embrace freedom with responsibility, where autonomy flourishes alongside care for one another and for the sanctuary we share.
We believe in transformation
We live in transformation, where community is soil and curiosity the seed, together, we are a living garden.
